At least once a year, members of SMMC gather to complete projects around the campus of the parish. SMMC has completed major and minor projects, from the total field refurbishment to general clean-up where needed.
Annual Fall Festival (Fair):
Annually, during October, the fair takes place on the school grounds. This event starts on a Friday night and continues until Sunday evening. There are over 30 booths that include everything from specialty food items, games, assortment of beverages including specialty beer and wines, local bands, and many other events during this event. This event is a great time for the community and for families to come to gather.
Teacher's Appreciation Dinner:
One of SMMC's favorite events is the Teacher's Appreciation Dinner. The purpose of this event is to generate funds for the teachers to help cover the cost of supplies for their classrooms. Many of our teachers spend their own hard-earned money to make the classroom extra special for the students of St. Matthew School and this is a way for SMMC to help them and give the teachers of St. Matthew School an extra thank you for what they do. In 2009, the Men's Club changed the menu, venue, and time of this event. This event takes place in September in the MBC where a variety of menu items are available. We look forward to continuing to build upon this event!
This is SMMC's newest event and has become a favorite among the community. This event started in 2009 when over 18 teams boiled over 4,000 pounds of crawfish to be judged for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards. In 2010 we had over 27 teams boil over 6,500 pounds and had over 1,200 people attend this event. In 2014 we had 46 teams boiling 15,000 pounds and had nearly 3,000 people attend. SMMC is committed to continuing to build this event and looks forward to making it bigger and better! This event usually takes place in April.
Soccer an T-Ball:
Soccer and T-Ball is for boys and girls ages 3 to 6 years old (Pre-K3,Pre-K4, and Kindergarten) whose parents are parishioners of St. Matthew Parish and takes place on the St. Matthew Sports Field. Games are usually played on Tuesday evenings during the months of March, April and May at 6:00 PM. This is a great way for the little ones to begin his or her sports career!
Fishing Rodeo, Blessing of the Fleet & Captain's Party:
This event offers angler's the ability to fish any legal waters for all manner of inshore species and even includes a "heaviest fish" division. This rodeo aims its sites on rewarding the perseverance and accomplishments of the junior anglers by offering 1st thru 10th place trophies for Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead, Catfish, Drum, and even Crab! Not only will junior anglers walk away with a trophy, but they will also be awarded a prize. Adult anglers will compete for the same basic categories (minus Crab and Catfish) and with the addition of Bass. The Wednesday evening before this event starts, in front of St. Matthew Church, participants of the rodeo bring their vessels to the campus for the annual Blessing of the Fleet and US Coast Guard offers free vessel inspections. This event takes place during May.
